The 15 Day Turnaround

OGI has created Oceanbreakers BURN. What a great product! However, there is no such thing as a magic weight loss pill. It still takes dicipline, healthy eating and moderate exercise to achieve weight loss. I think we all know this, but executing it can be tough. Ron Meiss, having created sucessful weight loss systems in the past, developed the 15 day turnaround to help people stay focused on their weight loss goals. He has set a simple, easy-to-follow plan.

The 15 day turnaround consists of a few basic ideas:

- A two-week program of heathy eating, with Oceanbreakers BURN in-between meals.
- Tracking everything you consume, and keeping a logbook.
- A personal coach who will help you stay focused on your goals and help assess your habits.

This combination is a powerful formula for weight loss. I haven't seen so much excitement from people who love what the OGILife represents.

Here are a few Testimonials:

I have lost 12 pounds since August 17, 2008. I lost 3 pounds the first week and 9 pounds the second week. ... if you follow the 15 day plan I think most people will find success. Additionally, I have been eating a lot more fruits and vegetables for snacks. My exercise has increased slightly; I either walk a mile or bike 3 miles at least times a week.
Gary

My friend Billy has lost 8.5 lbs. in 6 days and went from 8-10 mountain dews to no desire. He drinks about 3 17-20 oz. water per day.
Jeff

My father in law was in from California visiting. He has tried everything to lose weight in the past - No Carb, High Carb, Low Carb, etc..... After one week he has lost seven pounds with Burn. And my mother in law has lost five pounds in the first week. They bought four more cases from us to take back to California.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With each order of Oceanbreakers BURN, you get all the coaching, the support system, an easy-to-follow 20 page guide, a CD with Ron Meiss and your own website to log your weight, measurements, eating habits, etc.... Come join the OGI lifestyle, be healthy, be strong.

Ron Meiss - passionate about helping people

It is with great pleasure that I introduce you to a wonderful leader in our business, welcome Ron Meiss. Ron claims he has retired, which is true, he may not have a "day job", but those of us within OGI know how much work he puts into our business.

Ron's passion for helping other people comes out right away. Having spent years as a instructor, author, coach, weight loss expert and motivational speaker, Ron brings tons of experience to our business. When he saw what Kerry Brown and Ocean Grown International was developing with Oceanbreakers Burn, he knew he had to be involved. He also knew one of the pitfalls for anyone losing weight is being able to "stick with it". "Captain" Ron has been key to developing my next topic, which is the 15 Day Turnaround program. Stay tuned.

What is the difference?

When I attempt to evaluate why two owners of a home-based business, in the same industry, one is highly successful, the other isn't, I ultimately ask myself this question, "Are some people really just not able to this?" (translation: "Can I really do this?). Let me respond now with an emphatic YES!

Despite the challenges that I face, I recognize that other people face the same challenges. I don't believe that someone else is inherently better than I am at running a business. Based on this evaluation, I have come to the conclusion that there are just a few different things that make the difference between a successful home-based business and a struggling home-based business.

Ok, so the first is experience. It seems obvious to me that someone with more experience in an industry would tend to do better, especially at the start, than somone brand new to the industry. Beyond industry experience, there is also life experiences, such as growing up in a family run pizza shop, or serving in the military, experiences outside the industry that are defining.

Secondly, training. Given the pizza shop example above, all experience can be considered training. Skills are learned, not something we are born with. I am speaking about industry specific training from someone from within the industry. This would be the equivalent of a formal college education in a specific field, i.e. nursing, accounting.

Finally, I would say discipline is a big difference between our two business owners. Doing the things that are tedious, or hard to do, knowing that in the future you will get results, can be hard for many people. Successful people in home-based business must be able to discipline themselves to focus on the task at hand, even with all the distractions that are around. This is hard for alot of people who are transitioning from a "job" to a home-based business.

If all thing are created equal, and the above is the difference, I can see some very important steps to take in developing a successful home-based business.

Michael Dell's Famous 3 C's speech

I found a copy of Michael Dell's famous 3 C's speech, Content, Commerce, Community. I was going to post the whole thing, but figured a link would just work better. Its five pages about the competative advantage using the internet.

Personality types - DISC and Personality Plus

There are a few different systems for evaluating personality types, I have included the following Wikipedia entry's for the 'DISC assessment' and 'Personality Plus' models. These will help you relate with someone else who most likely will have different drives and motivation.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disc Model

DISC is the four quadrant behavioral model based on the work of William Moulton Marston Ph.D. (1893 - 1947) to examine the behavior of individuals in their environment or within a specific situation. DISC looks at behavioral styles and behavioral preferences..
Marston completed doctoral studies at Harvard in the newly developing field of Psychology. In the early 1920's Marston first studied the concepts of will and power and their effect on personality and human behavior.[1] These findings contributed greatly to the field of psychology.
Marston published Emotions of Normal People in 1928.[2] In this book he first formally presented his findings, though he had written about DISC four years earlier. Marston published a second book on DISC, Integrative Psychology, in 1931. Marston really wanted to develop a unit of measurement of 'mental energy'. He did not develop the DISC test or assessment. In fact, he never used it as an assessment at all. However, in 1930, a friend did use it as an assessment in a book on success and it was published as one of the first in the newly emerging field of Self-Help publications.

Method
The assessments classify four aspects of behavior by testing a person's preferences in word associations (compare with Myers-Briggs Type Indicator).
DISC is an acronym for:
Dominance - relating to control, power and assertiveness
Influence - relating to social situations and communication
Steadiness -relating to patience, persistence, and thoughtfulness
Conscientiousness (or caution, compliance in Marston's time) - relating to structure and organization

These four dimensions can be grouped in a grid with D and I sharing the top row and representing extroverted aspects of the personality, and C and S below representing introverted aspects. D and S then share the left column and represent task-focused aspects, and I and C share the right column and represent social aspects. In this matrix, the vertical dimension represents a factor of "Assertive" or "Passive", while the horizontal represents "Open" vs. "Guarded". [3]

Dominance: People who score high in the intensity of the 'D' styles factor are very active in dealing with problems and challenges, while low D scores are people who want to do more research before committing to a decision. High "D" people are described as demanding, forceful, egocentric, strong willed, driving, determined, ambitious, aggressive, and pioneering. Low D scores describe those who are conservative, low keyed, cooperative, calculating, undemanding, cautious, mild, agreeable, modest and peaceful.

Influence: People with High I scores influence others through talking and activity and tend to be emotional. They are described as convincing, magnetic, political, enthusiastic, persuasive, warm, demonstrative, trusting, and optimistic. Those with Low I scores influence more by data and facts, and not with feelings. They are described as reflective, factual, calculating, skeptical, logical, suspicious, matter of fact, pessimistic, and critical.

Steadiness:(Submission in Marston's time): People with High S styles scores want a steady pace, security, and don't like sudden change. Low S intensity scores are those who like change and variety. High S persons are calm, relaxed, patient, possessive, predictable, deliberate, stable, consistent, and tend to be unemotional and poker faced. People with Low S scores are described as restless, demonstrative, impatient, eager, or even impulsive.

Conscientious: (Compliance in Marston's time): Persons with High C styles adhere to rules, regulations, and structure. They like to do quality work and do it right the first time. High C people are careful, cautious, exacting, neat, systematic, diplomatic, accurate, tactful. Those with Low C scores challenge the rules and want independence and are described as self-willed, stubborn, opinionated, unsystematic, arbitrary, and careless with details.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Personality Plus

Personality Plus talks about four key personality types. Any such system has to make generalisations, trying to find a balance between accurate portrayals and a usable number of types. The Personality Plus system allows for extensions by mixing profiles, such as describing someone as a Choleric Sanguine, rather than just Choleric or Sanguine. The system exists not simply to describe an individual's personality type, which perhaps the Myers-Briggs system does, but rather to highlight those aspects of personality which relate to interactions between people.

The 'Personality Plus' personality profiles
Choleric: This is the commander-type. Cholerics are dominant, strong, decisive, stubborn and even arrogant.
Melancholy: This is the mental-type. Their typical behaviour involves thinking, assessing, making lists, evaluating the positives and negatives, and general analysis of facts.
Sanguine: This is the social-type. They enjoy fun, socialising, chatting, telling stories - and are fond of promising the world, because that's the friendly thing to do.
Phlegmatic: This is the flat-type. They are easy going, laid back, nonchalant, unexcitable and relaxed. Desiring a peaceful environment above all else.

Positives and Negatives
None of these types is specifically described as positive or negative - each having upsides and downsides. The book makes it clear that the characteristics are for observing and identifying, rather than judging.
A Choleric is focussed on getting things done, but can run rough-shod over others. They are decisive and stubborn.
A Melancholy is a planner, making sure things happen, although sometimes they can paralyse themselves with over-analysis. Lists and "doing things the right way" are characteristics of this personality type.
A Sanguine gets on well with people and can get others excited about issues, but cannot always be relied upon to get things done. They love interacting with others and play the role of the entertainer in group interactions. They have a tendency to over-promise and under-deliver.
A Phlegmatic is neutral - they tend not to actively upset people, but their indifference may frustrate people. They try not to make decisions, and generally go for the status quo.

Interactions
The Personality Plus system is less about identifying a person's profile, and more about the implications that may have for group interactions. As such, it is used in sales and negotiation training, and for understanding group dynamics in business.

A Choleric might get frustrated by a Phlegmatic who doesn't seem to want to get things done now. This pairing however can work well, though, because Cholerics tend to tell people what to do, and Phlegmatics tend to do what they are told. This coupling often have relationships with each other - although interestingly this may introduce a downward spiral, where the Choleric becomes increasingly commanding, and the Phlegmatic becomes more indifferent through their interactions.

Melancholies might make lists and work through them point by point, and get frustrated by Sanguines who tend to bounce from one idea to the next, often without completing the first.
A simplification might be that a Choleric likes it "my way", a Melancholy likes it "the right way", a Sangine likes it "the fun way", and a Phlegmatic likes it "any way".

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As you can see these are similar models. a D-type, or Dominate type, is essentially a Choleric. The same goes with the sanguine I-type, the melancholy C-type and the phlegmatic S-type. While some people exibit strong traits towards one type or another, most people are a mix of different types. We all have some of every type.

Seven Ways to Steer Traffic to your website

Here is a great article on web site traffic by Rick@theperfectocean.com

Seven Ways to Steer Traffic to your Website

You have a website or maybe a lead capture page, but you are not sure how to steer traffic to it.

With good targeted traffic, you can test and track your conversion, your click-throughs, list building, to name a few of the possibilities.

There are numerous traffic sources, such as search engine traffic. But relying solely on search engines for your traffic, or from any one source is like trying to find a grain of sand in the ocean. By diversifying your strategies you create a comprehensive game plan to drive traffic to your site.

But you need content in order to satisfy both your website visitors and the search engines. How does content actually bring you website traffic? How do you create traffic so that at the end of the month your lead list has grown rather than stagnated?

Here is the list of 7 surefire ways to drive target traffic to your site using content.

1. Keyword-rich articles.

By researching the popular keywords for your topic or product, you can create information that places these words into the context of an article for your website. Websites need pages. The more, the better. The World Wide Web is like the ocean. If you are going to venture out into the deep international waters, you need a big ship, not a tiny raft.

Websites with pages of real content will become a feeding ground for the search engines.

2. Newsletters or sequenced information.

80% of sales take place after the first contact. That is why it is imperative that every website have a newsletter when possible. The percentage of sales goes up with each contact. The highest percentage made after 5 to 7 contacts. Remember that you are not dispensing information – you are creating a network.

To have a newsletter, you must have content. Start putting some ideas together and write those newsletters. Wait for the follow up of traffic as they open their email and come back to your site.

3. Free reports.

Free reports are a great way to attract subscribers to your newsletter. It is best to create viral reports.

These reports can also be given away by other people on related websites, with a link to your website inside. You provide them something to give to their customers for free and you get the traffic that is sure to follow.

4. Submission to relevant websites.

Another beneficial use for articles is to offer them directly to sites you would like to share an audience with. This is not only a great way to gain credibility for your topic, but will provide useful hyperlinks all over the Internet.

5. Forums or blogs.

Search for forums or blogs that discuss something related to your website. In most cases you can either post a link to your website in your signature or share information that arouses questions about your website from other posters. Some forums permit you to post your articles.

6. Link pages.

Rather than having a bland list of ‘linking partners’, you could be use your links to gain more credibility and provide more content for the search engines.

Create a separate page for each link category and write 200-400 words of content on that subject. Offering your recommended links at the end will make you a source for information rather than just a catalogue of links.

7. Press release.

Press releases should become an important part of your marketing. By creating a press release to announce a new product, results of a poll or related news event, you can get free advertising in the media. Press releases are great for the launch of a new product.

Remember, all marketing takes an investment of time. Plan your marketing efforts to bet the best compensation or return on investment for yourself. Always look at the opportunity for growth vs the investment (OGI). If you are not getting back what you are seek from your investment of time or money dig a little deeper and expand your knowledge.

Plan Do Check Adjust

There is a great book out there called Launching A Leadership Revolution. In it, the authors describe a method of evaluation that can be applied to many different things. They describe it as PDCA, or Plan Do Check Adjust.

Develop a plan. Some people never plan and therefore, always hit their goals. Meaning they never really achieve what they want. Without proper planning and developing a system for following that plan, it becomes difficult to stay focused on the tasks ahead. Some people are great planners, but never move beyond that. They plan and plan, but never realize "the plan" because they never move on.

Do. This is an action step. It means looking at the plan of action you have developed and began the work. This not only develops your abilities, but moves you closer to your goals.

Check. Check you results and look and possible ways to improve. This is the time to evalute progress to determine if the goals are realistic and if the execution is proper.

Adjust. Adjusting the plan, or the action steps is key to progress. This isn't the time for major sweeping changes, jumping from one system to another, rather small adjustments to evaluate the success of the changes.

By applying the principles of PDCA, results can be made through a sytematic approach of discovering what the best course of action yields the best results.

Timing is everything.

As OceanGrown International prepares for the launch of the Oceanbreakers Burn we anticipate some great response. The buzz so far has top leaders absolutely "giddy". Oceanbreakers Burn is scheduled to release in a couple weeks. So far, pre-release sales have skyrocketed. Talk about great timing, if you haven't seriously thought about this business, take a closer look. You won't be dissapointed. If you aren't familiar with the weight management product check out my post here.

The timing could not be better for Oceangrown, or for the network marketing industry as a whole. Unemployement is on the rise, the housing market has bled over to other markets, and spending has decreased. If you are building a network marketing business, the time is now. More and more families are looking to supplement, even replace full time jobs. There isn't such thing as job security anymore. Even government jobs, with low pay and good benefits are suffering. During the housing market boom, employees were in homes they couldn't afford as property taxes kept rising and interest rates were going up. You see more and more families losing homes they can no longer afford or even sell, since no one is buying homes anymore.

This is creating within our culture the need for more income, or less debt. Successful home-based businesses can solve both these problems. Oceangrown International has come along within that industry and created an unique approach to business building that creates a great income, not only now, but with the future in mind.

If you are looking for a business, I challenge you to find an opportunity like this, we are pre-launch, and the growth we are experiencing is incredible. However, if you decide that the health and wellness industries, consumable products that generate repeat business, and a company with some of the top management team in our industry isn't what you are looking for, do yourself a favor and find something...but do it now. There isn't a better time to be in network marketing.

Branding

Here is a great article on branding by Rick@theperfectocean.com

Read this doc on Scribd: Build Your Brand

It's the thought that counts.

What is a thought leader? Wikipedia defines a thought leader as a person who is recognized among their peers and mentors for innovative ideas and demonstrates the confidence to promote or share those ideas as actionable distilled insights.

Taking the vast ocean of opportunities, how does a thought leader develop ideas into a full grown an action plan? Being a thought leader can be a powerful tool, especially in the development stages of a endeavour, such a taking a company international or developing a compensation plan for a network marketing company.

The health of a company indeed is built upon leadership. According to Heartland, a network of leaders, "Some visions of thought leaders are to fuel the evolution of leaders who choose to contribute to sustaining life (body, mind and spirit) in ourselves, our organizations, and our communities. Leadership development is rooted in personal development & organizational transformation is rooted in individual transformation." It seems that Leadership Development is more than helping people become a dynamic speaker, or a top CEO known for organizational skills, LD is also about helping people expand opportunities in the area of thinking.

Christopher Columbus was a thought leader. While most of the known world thought he was crazy for believing he could sail around the ocean, not because everyone thought the world was flat (after the 2nd Century most actually believed the world to be round), but rather the voyage would take so long that a crew would run out of water and food long before reaching Asia. He opened up vast wealth to Spain for investing in his excursion.

Michael Dell is a thought leader. Some of you may know the story how instead of pursuing medicine Michael Dell left to build computers. He thought leadership was evident when he decided that he could sell his computers directly to the customer, something no other company had done at that point as successfully as he did.

Develop Yourself

We all want success in our OGI business. OceanGrown International is providing a great opportunity for us, yet it is incumbant that we develop skills that will further our business.

That may be soft skills, such as developing our ability to communicate, taking personal responsibility for our business, good teamwork and having integrity. It may be by building technical skills such as website design, writing skills, Search Engine Optimization and knowledge of specifics about our company.

Some of the best resources for developing skills, both hard and soft is reading. I talk to many people who tell me they haven't picked up a book in years. Self development books and audio's are great sources of soft skill development. Technical books, such as "How to's" or podcasts on SEO can provide some technical skills. Specific literature about our company is important so you can speak with authority about what we offer and where we are going as a company.

It takes action, along with knowledge that leads to success. Don't be afraid to make mistakes along the way. The faster you make mistakes in this business, the faster you grow your skills and improve results. Develop yourself because in the end, you... are your greatest investment.

Here are a few books (thanks for the comment andrew). I will add a few more later that I have personally benefited from and I think anyone looking to increase knowledge in the network marketing industry should have.

OceanGrown International - OAVE™

Much of the descriptions here are from the corporate site, as I cannot say it better.

OAVE™ is a skincare line designed to PROTECT, NOURISH and BUILD the body's largest organ. OAVE™ is the ultimate treatment for your skin, the OGIBlueprint™ uniting Astaxanthin (red algae), Icelandic Moss and Irish Seaweed.

As your first line of defense to the elements, your skin is an outward sign of your age. When skin gets dry, it looks wrinkled. As your skin breathes daily, a significant amount of water is lost – OAVE™'s hydrating ingredients will quench frequent thirst with the finest natural ocean ingredients.

These are the first line of products:

With the highest quality ingredients at a very reasonable price and great branding, I think you will agree that the OAVE™ line is a great product.

OceanGrown International - Asta-what???

Astaxanthin (pronounced as-tuh-zan'-thin). Astaxanthin is a powerful antioxidant. Repairing and preventing damage by free-radicals in the body, astaxanthin is unique that is doesn't convert into Vitamin A, which at high doses can be toxic to humans.

Astaxanthin, provides the red coloration of salmon, traps more types of free radical molecules that are destructive to cells than any other antioxidant. Astaxanthin is a strong weapon in the battle against free radicals and the many age-related diseases associated with them. Thus, it is used in the most effective anti-aging skin care creams and supplements.

Astaxanthin is a red pigment occurring naturally in a wide variety of living organisms. Most crustaceans, including shrimp, crawfish, crabs and lobster, are tinted red by accumulated astaxanthin; the pink flesh of healthy wild salmon is a clear example. Several studies have shown how effective astaxanthin is as a cancer preventive in rats and mice. Astaxanthin is a powerful biological antioxidant, especially effective at preventing lipid peroxidation, with up to 500 higher efficacy than vitamin E, and up to 10 times stronger than beta-carotene.

The FDA has approved the following claims of astaxanthin, amazing as there are very few health claims that can be made of any one product or substance:
  • Joint Health
  • Healthy Immune Function
  • Tendon Health
  • Healthy Skin
  • Anti-aging through Cellular Health
  • Increased Energy Levels
  • Healthy Oxidative Balance
  • Recovery after Exercise
  • Healthly Cardiovascular System
  • Eye Health
  • Crosses the Blood-Brain Barrier
  • Normal C-Reactive Protein Levels
  • Supports Recovery from Sun Exposure

Natural astaxanthin is so effective as an antioxidant, natural UV protector and anti-inflammitory, it has gotten alot of research in recent years. If you are looking for more information on Astaxanthin, you can check it out here.
